February 5, 2014 -
Jennifer McDonald - I love this time of year! The sun is shining bright; yet the cool breeze reminds us that springtime is only just opening her eyes. After a beautiful breakfast, and a morning walk with the dogs. There is nothing sweeter than watching the babies frolic in the front turn-outs. We live on a quiet street, yet we have plenty of neighbors. It is not uncommon to see a few cars pulled onto the shoulder of our road; a mother with her children bouncing out of their stollers; or the elderly couple out for a stroll... stopped at our landscaping wall where even the tiniest of foals can gaze right into the eyes of the public. They come prepared. Hands full of sugar cubes, apple slices, etc. The couple I met this week, Richard & Felicia, made sure to bring 'organic' apples, as they didn't want to pollute the sweet innocence of the filly.
We have two foals already on the ground. The first is a strong, robust, colt sired by SF Sir Real; and out of the precious, MC Adoniia. He is so bold, with his high tail perfectly matched by his high arching neck. 'Regal' is the best term to define him. The second is one week old Filly, sired by Jagger SWF; and out of the
queen... sorry, she's an Empress! Empress Of Marwan. The filly was purchased at only a few days old by our friend, Elizabeth. We are so excited for Elizabeth and all her new adventures with this beautiful filly. Gary is already claiming this one as his next Weanling Champion at the Arabian Breeder Finals Championships.
The beautiful *HS Primavere is about to birth her first naturally-carried foal. She has 6 registered foals, but all of them have been by embryo transfer. I am so excited that she gets the opportunity to greet her first child herself. She has so much love to give. She was due on February 3rd, so we are still anxiously waiting any day now.
Klee Young - “Welcome to your new addiction” is more than a tagline for McDonald Arabians. After attending their 5th annual Christmas and New Years Celebration, it’s an actual warning. I’ve learned that Arabian horses have a subtle, mysterious power to draw you in! This year’s event was our family's first, and we all enjoyed it. It’s a relaxed atmosphere, and the McDonald Arabian crew know how to put on a show. The horses are all unique. Some have more grace. Some have more power. It’s even apparent to the layperson: you can tell that there’s something special in all of their genetics. Jennifer and Gary are both humble, passionate professionals. Gary does an amazing job of wearing many hats. He’s a showman, a successful business person, and obviously a great horse breeder and trainer. If you've never been, show up next year for a fun and up-close look at Arabian horses, that really could become an addiction. You've been warned!

JENNIFER MCDONALD - Gary and I just flew in to Minnesota, which now is not the ideal time to leave 60-70 degree weather to travel to negative temperatures. When we arrived to Minnesota the agent at the rental car company upgraded us to a Dodge Charger because she did not want to walk into the cold to get the keys for the correct car. Gary enjoyed driving the Charger because our son, Kenny, just turned 16 years old and the Dodge Charger is at the top of his “wish list”. This trip was all about visiting friends and looking at Arabian Horses. On this trip we found a beautiful two year old filly at Jerland Farms, and she will be making her way to Scottsdale shortly! Watch for her in some of the springtime shows with Gary at the lead. Also, while Larry Jerome put up a very strong front, I humbly admit that I am the reigning Champion Phase Ten Card Player at Jerland Farms. Larry and Shirley, myself and Gary, had a wonderful time singing some Christmas carols while accompanied by Larry’s amazing Piano talents. It was truly an honor for me to meet such a wonderful family.
The next day we were blessed to have spent the evening with some dear friends of Gary’s that I was so excited to meet. Ross and Terri Danielson have a beautiful facility and such amazing horses! They own a mare, Copper Classique, who has already produced two SuperStars that the Danielson’s sent to Scottsdale for Gary to train and show (one Scottsdale Junior Champion; one Canadian National Champion). Now they have a colt and a filly out of this same mare who I believe will be the next National Winners in their breeding program. The laughs and memories they shared over dinner were wonderful to hear about. I am so excited to have made new friends, and look forward watching all their future success.
I am happy to be home; back in the land of sandals instead of boots. Looking forward to a wonderful Christmas.
AMANDA ENDRIZZI - “I came out to Arizona with my girlfriend for a quick weekend to horse shop. I went to many different barns and looked at many different horses. McDonald Arabians was our last stop before flying back and I have to say we were never greeted more kindly than by Gary and Jen. They welcomed us in with open arms as if we were old friends. Their farm and horses were absolutely gorgeous! Gary was very honest and helpful throughout the buying experience. I am very happy with the horse I chose and couldn't be happier that I have made two new friends out of Gary and Jen.”
